They were stretched all around, as far as the eye could see, at the BCS National Championship Game last night in Miami. The Florida Gators, and game MVP Tim Tebow, beat the Oklahoma Sooners 24-14 to capture their second National Title in 3 years. Florida was also voted the AP National Champion in the poll released this morning.

Experts expected the game to be a shoot-out with two of the best offenses in the NCAA going head to head. Oklahoma did not score less than 35 points in any game this season en route to a 12-1 regular-season record and Big 12 championship. The Gators were also an offensive juggernaut, also finishing 12-1 and winning the SEC championship. It was Florida’s #4 ranked defense that made the difference.

Despite having the Heisman Trophy winner in Sam Bradford, Oklahoma was not able to put the points on the board that they are used to. They were stopped at the goal line twice in the first half, once on 4th down and once with an interception. Still, the game was neck and neck in the second half until Florida blocked an Oklahoma field goal attempt. After that play one could feel the momentum swing to Florida, and they ran away with the game. Tebow and Percy Harvin, who had missed a month with an injury and stayed in Florida over Christmas to rehab for the game, put the Sooners away.

…have been alive a shorter amount of time than John Smoltz has been pitching for the Atlanta Braves. However, he was at Atlanta’s Turner Field this morning to clean out his locker. Smoltz has agreed in principle to a $5.5 million, 1 year deal with the Boston Red Sox, who saved a lot in picking up a great pitcher.

Smoltz had 210 wins and 154 saves while a member of the Braves. In the mid-to-late 90’s he was a member of the greatest pitching staff ever; including future MLB Hall of Famer’s Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine. The Braves won their division 14 straight years, but were only able to win 1 World Series.

Injuries and severe pain have hampered Smoltz the last few years, but, when healthy, he is still one of the most effective pitchers in the league. He joins a Red Sox team that is a perennial contender and on the short list of potential World Series Champions. While it will be strange to see him in another jersey, Smoltz career is old enough to make its own decisions.

If sexy sports women are your thing, the person to start and end the discussion is Anna Kournikova. She broke into the world of professional tennis as a 16-year old phenom on the ATP tour. She was quickly know world wide for her inescapable sex appeal more for her tennis play.

Kournikova never won a professional tournament during her career which ended due to severe back pain. She did however turn her other assets into a very lucrative modeling and endorsement career. Rascal Terry, a French motorcyclist, was found today after he went missing Sunday during the second stage of the race, between Santa Rosa and Puerto Madryn, Argentina. He was found earlier today is an area of dense vegetation, 50 feet from his motorcycle, he had no helmet and no food or water beside him. Investigating the death are the Las Pampas regional police. It was Terry’s first time in this race and before the start he spoke about his dream of being part of the Dakar Rally “I’ve dreamed about being in the Dakar since it started,” commented Terry who has 29 years of racing experience. “I think it’s going to be great….I’m going to do all I can to take full advantage of all the legs of the race.”

Terry contacted organized early on Sunday and notified them that he ran out of gas, but stop another rider and got some. Some hours later an alert was sent by him an a search team was sent out. Due to the dense terrain rescuers had a hard time making their way to him. The search was called off briefly on Tuesday after on rescuers that he had spotted Terry and finally a team reach him overnight. In the 31-year history of the race there has been a series of deaths and injuries. Two died during the last race in 2007. The last day of the rally is Jan 18 in Buenos Aires.

When accused of adultery, you can’t just issue a standard denial these days – you have to sue the bastards who gave a voice to the accuser. Tony Parker, the husband of star Eva Longoria, has shot back at reports he cheated on Longoria with French model Alexandra Paressant by filing a $40 million lawsuit against the gossip site and their false rumors.

The lawsuit claims the alleged affair never happened, and that Parker has never even laid eyes on Paressant, let alone slept with her. Photos published on the gossip site suggest otherwise. Parker and Longoria have been steadfast in the denial of the affair and have publicly made clear that their marriage is as strong as ever.

There is even talk of a possible baby. Longoria claims she has just gained weight, but photos would tell us differently. Hopefully this suit won’t cause difficulty for the unborn child.
