Dakar Rally Turns Deadly for Rookie Cyclist
Rascal Terry, a French motorcyclist, was found today after he went missing Sunday during the second stage of the race, between Santa Rosa and Puerto Madryn, Argentina. He was found earlier today is an area of dense vegetation, 50 feet from his motorcycle, he had no helmet and no food or water beside him. Investigating the death are the Las Pampas regional police. It was Terry’s first time in this race and before the start he spoke about his dream of being part of the Dakar Rally “I’ve dreamed about being in the Dakar since it started,” commented Terry who has 29 years of racing experience. “I think it’s going to be great….I’m going to do all I can to take full advantage of all the legs of the race.”
Terry contacted organized early on Sunday and notified them that he ran out of gas, but stop another rider and got some. Some hours later an alert was sent by him an a search team was sent out. Due to the dense terrain rescuers had a hard time making their way to him. The search was called off briefly on Tuesday after on rescuers that he had spotted Terry and finally a team reach him overnight. In the 31-year history of the race there has been a series of deaths and injuries. Two died during the last race in 2007. The last day of the rally is Jan 18 in Buenos Aires.
