They were stretched all around, as far as the eye could see, at the BCS National Championship Game last night in Miami. The Florida Gators, and game MVP Tim Tebow, beat the Oklahoma Sooners 24-14 to capture their second National Title in 3 years. Florida was also voted the AP National Champion in the poll released this morning.
Experts expected the game to be a shoot-out with two of the best offenses in the NCAA going head to head. Oklahoma did not score less than 35 points in any game this season en route to a 12-1 regular-season record and Big 12 championship. The Gators were also an offensive juggernaut, also finishing 12-1 and winning the SEC championship. It was Florida’s #4 ranked defense that made the difference.
Despite having the Heisman Trophy winner in Sam Bradford, Oklahoma was not able to put the points on the board that they are used to. They were stopped at the goal line twice in the first half, once on 4th down and once with an interception. Still, the game was neck and neck in the second half until Florida blocked an Oklahoma field goal attempt. After that play one could feel the momentum swing to Florida, and they ran away with the game. Tebow and Percy Harvin, who had missed a month with an injury and stayed in Florida over Christmas to rehab for the game, put the Sooners away.

In what can only be described as the Oscars for football, Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford was the lucky winner who got to take home the coveted Heisman. He was up against Florida’s Tim Tebow and Texas’ Colt McCoy.
The “You like me! You really like me!” Factor was visible on the players usually calm face when his name was called. He did the usual schbeal that most winners of any major award do and hugged his parents and coach. He was soon back to his old self at the stand though while he cooly thanked and praised his teammates and parents.
Bradford was humbly quoted to say after the award, “I really wasn’t expecting it,” he said later at the post-awards news conference. “It’s really surreal. Earlier today I looked at the portraits of the other Heisman winners on the wall, and it was hard to consider myself on the same level as those guys. But tonight I had a chance to join them.”
Bradford also took home the Davey O’Brien Award on Thursday in Orlando as the best quarterback in the nation. He broke records left and right all season, directing the Sooners’ offense to an FBS-record 702 points as he led the nation with 48 touchdowns to only six INTs and helped put up a record-setting 60-plus points in five consecutive games. Voters gave Bradford 1,726 points over McCoy’s second-place 1,604 points. Although Tebow received the most first-place votes, he finished third with 1,575 points.

Tim Tebow, the quarterback for the Florida Gators, is in a position to win a second Heisman trophy, the most prestigious award in college football.
So is Sam Bradford, the quarterback from Oklahoma, Tebow’s opponent in the BCS national championship game on January 8 in Miami.
This creates an interesting dynamic in college football and college sports, for the Heisman winner seldom receives a second Heisman. Tebow won as a sophomore and is trying to repeat as a junior. With Bradford the quarterback of the Oklahoma Sooners, the highest scoring college football team in 89 years, that definitely will command him some votes. So the question is, who will win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night?
