Saints Cheerleader

New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Marrone has been hired as coach at Syracuse. Marrone was a captain and three-year letterman at Syracuse in the mid-1980s. Nothing like returning to your roots eh? He also played with the Miami Dolphins in 1987 and the Saints in 1989, and was with the London Monarchs of the World league in 1991.

This will be Marrone’s first shot at head coach. He went to Syracuse on Sunday after the Saints’ victory over the Atlanta Falcons for a second interview with athletic director Daryl Gross.

Marrone began coaching as an assistant at Cortland State, and also coached at Coast Guard, Northeastern, Georgia Tech, Georgia and Tennessee. He was a New York Jets assistant for three years before joining the Saints.

Marrone has served as offensive coordinator for the Saints since January ‘06. Under his coordination the Saints have become one of the NFL’s most amazingly consistent offenses.
